LEGO SERIOUS PLAY (LSP), as an integrated school-based play therapy tool, can foster mutual respect and understanding among team members from different disciplines, leading to more effective team dynamics and student support. By visually representing ideas, strategies, and concerns, teams can break down silos and foster creative, actionable solutions for student mental health. This LSP play therapy session will focus on transforming school interdisciplinary collaboration and helping teams work more effectively to support student mental health. Mental health professionals integrating play therapy into school-based mental health will be guided through practical strategies to integrate LSP as a tool for fostering communication, problem-solving, and cohesion among teachers, counselors, administrators, and other school staff. This LSP play therapy session will also explore how LSP engages students in self-expression and helps interdisciplinary teams support their mental, emotional, and behavioral development collaboratively.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to…

  1. Explain how LSP can improve communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary teams supporting student mental health.
  2. Demonstrate how to use LSP as a school-based play therapy method to create 3-D models that represent mental health challenges and collaboratively develop solutions within interdisciplinary teams.
  3. Use LSP to design school-based play therapy interventions that consider the whole child, integrating academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs into their mental health plans.
