Transforming Classroom Connection and Collaboration through LEGO® Serious Play®

  • Rubina Haroutonian, LMFT, RPT™
  • Live Webinar Specialized CE Hours: 3
  • CE Classification: 3 Hours Skills & Methods or 3-Hours Special Topics

This session explores how LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) can be integrated into school-based play therapy and classroom management to enhance communication, problem-solving, and social-emotional learning for students. Using LEGO® bricks as tools for thinking, expression, and collaboration, LSP allows students to explore complex ideas and scenarios by constructing 3-D models. These activities encourage students to overcome challenges, develop social-emotional skills, and become creative problem solvers, key elements of effective play therapy. Integrating LSP into school-based play therapy also provides a safe, non-verbal method for students to express emotions, reflect on experiences, and collaborate with peers, fostering empathy and communication. Additionally, the session highlights how school-based play therapists and teachers can collaborate to incorporate LSP into daily classroom routines, supporting behavior management, emotional regulation, and peer relationships. This type of collaboration can ultimately create a cohesive and supportive learning environment where students can thrive both emotionally and academically.

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify effective strategies for promoting quality collaboration between school-based mental health professionals and teachers through the lens of play therapy.
  2. Utilize LEGO SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) to help students express complex emotions through the creation of 3-D models, fostering emotional awareness and self-regulation in school-based play therapy sessions.
  3. Implement LSP activities into a play therapy framework that encourages students to build solutions to classroom or personal challenges, enhancing their social-emotional learning, creative problem-solving, and communication skills.
  4. Create a safe environment where students can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, increasing engagement and reducing anxiety in school-based mental health counseling and classroom settings.
